Bob Cunis dies, but his name lives on

BOB CUNIS, who has died at the age of 67, played 20 Tests for New Zealand as a fast-medium swing bowler with an unusual 'wrong-foot' action and went on to be national coach for three years until 1990.

Chairman quits over fake all-10 report

A VILLAGE club chairman has resigned in protest at what he described as a lack of action against the captain after a fake match report in Cambridgeshire had been published claiming a bowler had taken all 10 wickets in a match, one more than the nine he actually took.

UCB fraudster goes to jail

CRICKET South Africa lost more than £400,000 through fraud by one of their employees, and it was a happy coincidence that conviction was achieved in Johannesburg within a few days of the Test team wrapping up the series against England at Edgbaston.

THE fact that Michael Vaughan has slipped to 37th in the ICC Reliance Mobile world rankings and that Andrew Strauss, a theoretical successor, has dropped to 23rd says everything about the parlous state of England's batting, re-emphasising the need for a settled captain.

Vaughan is worried

Michael Vaughan, after resigning as England captain, fears for future mindsets with the impact of Twenty20. "The new generation of 15-20 year olds, are they going to gear themselves towards travelling the world for nine months of the year playing five-day cricket or earn plenty by playing three-hour cricket a little bit in India and at home?" he asks.
