ENGLAND UNDER-19

THE Tamworth batsman Jack Manuel has been drafted into the England Under-19 squad for the series against New Zealand at the age of 17 as cover for Alex Wakely.

Wakely has sustained a hand injury, and the England and Wales Cricket Board said that Manuel, on Worcestershire's books, had performed well for England Under-17, having caught the eye with his run-scoring in the Birmingham League.

England, sponsored by Friends Provident, will be captained by Tom Westley in the two-match series, which starts at Taunton on Saturday, with the second Test at New Road, Worcester, on Aug 1.

Ben Sanderson broke his finger earlier in the week and has been ruled out of the first Test, Stuart Meaker replacing him in the squad.
